Tools to Help You Quit Smoking

Quitting smoking can be difficult but it’s never too late to start making the transition to a healthier lifestyle. Use these helpful tools and resources to take the first step.

Talk to your doctor about nicotine-release products. Nicotine products such as patches or gums can greatly improve efforts to quit smoking when applied correctly. Be sure to talk with your doctor about the recommended strength of the product as heavy smokers should generally start with the strongest amount and decrease intensity over time.

Online Programs – The American Lung Association offers “Freedom from Smoking Online“ – an online program that makes the transition to quitting a gradual process. The best part of this program is that it’s easily accessible online and works on any schedule you choose.

Local support groups – You can find additional local support across Washoe County including a program from our hospital partner, Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center. Click here for a list of smoking cessation support groups in the Reno area.
