Lung Cancer Awareness: Pairing Treatments for Optimal Outcomes
November is recognized annually as Lung Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness and funds for lung cancer research. At Reno CyberKnife, our center recognizes this campaign by focusing on increasing understanding of how lung cancer treatment has evolved.
As cancer care evolves, doctors are prescribing different treatment methods in tandem to reduce overall treatment time, side effects and improve quality of life for patients. For lung cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, this strategy has become particularly important.
Physicians often turn to chemotherapy when a patient’s cancer cells are found to have spread throughout the body or in the blood.
For some lung cancer patients, physicians may pair chemotherapy with radiation therapy treatments or stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) to enhance the primary treatment or alleviate symptoms. Reno CyberKnife uses CyberKnife® technology to deliver SBRT to primary and metastatic lung tumors. The treatment precisely targets tumors with high dose radiation with few to no side effects and may be given as part of a prescribed treatment plan between chemotherapy treatments.
If you think you or a loved one may be a candidate for CyberKnife, contact our center for more information.
