Jonathan Tay, MD

Jonathan Tay, MD, is a board-certified radiation oncologist at our Reno cancer treatment center.

After receiving his medical degree at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan, in 1991, Dr. Tay completed his first-year residency in internal medicine at Naval Hospital in Oakland, California.  As a Health Profession Scholarship Program participant, Dr. Tay spent time with the U.S. Navy Submarine Fleet as an undersea and diving medical officer.  He completed his residency in radiation oncology at Saint Mary’s Integrated Hospitals Program in San Francisco in 1998 and became certified by the American Board of Radiology in radiation oncology.

During his training and early years of practice, Dr. Tay developed special interests in brachytherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery.  He was in private practice with Radiation Oncology Associates in Reno, Nevada, implemented an LDR brachytherapy program at Saint Mary’s in 1998, and became Chair of the Cancer Committee at Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nevada, in 2004.  He was also a consultant for a brachytherapy technology company and the Northern Nevada Hyperbaric Center.

At its opening in 2005, Dr. Tay was Medical Director of the Radiation Oncology Department at Saint Mary’s, where he established cancer clinical trials and implemented intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), HDR brachytherapy, and CyberKnife stereotactic radiosurgery treatments.

Dr. Tay is a member of the Washoe County Medical Society, the Nevada Oncology Society, the Wilderness Medical Society, the American Brachytherapy Society, the American College of Radiation Oncology, the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), and the CyberKnife Society.
